Job Purpose
The design engineering group provides complete end-to-end product development solutions to a variety of customers. These product solutions include development of optical transceivers and optical sub assemblies, test and measurement modules, and a variety of RF solutions. The team delivers project solutions from concept definition through to volume manufacturing.
The design team is seeking an Embedded Software Developer for the Advanced Systems and Interconnect team. The initial focus will be on optical transceiver designs, participating in the software development life cycle, from concept through to delivery to end customers. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with a cross function product development team.
Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participate in the software development life cycle, from development through delivery to the end customers.
- Implementing embedded control firmware for advanced pluggable optical transceivers.
- Consult with optical, hardware, microelectronics, software, manufacturing and test teams during design development.
- Interface with various testing groups for test case development. This includes FW DVT, optical test system software test and manufacturing tests.
- Debug system defects, throughput and performance. Work with product verification and test teams to resolve problems.
- May be required to provide guidance to coop student(s).
- Requirement and design documentation.
- Transfer of information to manufacturing.
Education and Experience:
- B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. M.S or Ph.D. is considered and asset.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience is required.
- Strong proficiency in C, Python, Visual Basic. C++ is considered an asset.
- Hands-on experience with STM32 MCU architecture and ARM Cortex-M.
- Proficient with STM32CubeIDE and VScode.
- Experience with bare metal and RTOS based embedded development.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, UART, I2C, MDIO.
- Troubleshooting and debugging using JTAG tools, IDE, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Knowledge of software version control (GIT) and bug tracking systems.
- Ability to lead initial board bring-up and hardware validation for new PCB prototypes, including power-on testing and functional verification.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly self-driven and willingness to learn new skills.
The following are considered Assets:
- Understanding of Common Management Interface Specifications (CMIS).
- Ability to understand CPU Hardware architectures, Hardware Functional Specifications and Hardware Timing Diagrams.
- Good knowledge of standard specs (Ethernet, InfiniBand, CMIS, Physical Layers and Optics).
- Experience in Hardware boards development and/or debugging.
- Familiarity with optical such as 100G/400G Ethernet interfaces, Coherent optical interfaces, DWDM, OTN, Ethernet, OSI Model, TCP/IP and MPLS.
OTHER INFORMATION
- This position is for a 12-month contract.
- The compensation range for this position is $115,000 - $155,000 annually.
